I hardly recall the pope
And I wonder why

I saw faces in the audience
Faces I don’t remember

But I hardly recall the pope.
For when I walked on to that stage
into the presence of the light
amidst racing heartbeats and the heat,
I felt like a king, a pope, a god

an amateur
Who now asks himself
“Did I really get into character?”
